Non Compliance Observed
Owner/director reported a serious non-compliant incident to Licensing on 2/02/24 - A school-age child was left on a van following return from after-school pickup; this was noticed while staff were checking child attendance; the child had been alone on the van for approximately 10 minutes and had fallen asleep; the driver checking the van upon return to the center stated two checks were conducted but was not thorough.
Numerous, Repeated, and/or Serious Non Compliance
Yes
Plan to Correct
Owner/director provided a written statement that the driver involved in the incident will not transport children alone and will have another teacher with her on all routes; that this will remain in place until appropriate training has been completed and until further notice. The program will ensure a two-person child check is conducted for the three vans in use, after return to the program both in the mornings and in the afternoons, to ensure that no children have been left on board. The checks will be documented as these are conducted. The driver involved completed two hours of formal online training today - Transportation Safety: Keeping Kids Safe - Pro Solutions training. Additional training will include basic transportation, large vehicle operation training and field trip safety for child care programs; the trainings will be completed by the end of day on 2/07/24. Additional drivers will also be completing these trainings. The program is having a staff meeting this evening, during which requirements related to transportation and supervision will be reiterated.
Regulation Description
Supervision. Supervision is the function of observing, overseeing, and guiding a child or group of children, including an awareness of, and responsibility for, the ongoing activity of each child, and being near enough to intervene when needed. The program is required to maintain supervision at all times.
